The Iranian Society of Biochemistry (ISB), as a reputable and non-profit scientific institution, plays a key role in advancing the sciences of biochemistry, clinical biochemistry, laboratory sciences, and molecular biology in the country. Established in 1993, this society undertakes extensive activities aimed at developing and promoting knowledge, and creating a platform for scientific exchange among researchers, specialists, and students. To date, eleven rounds of board of directors elections have been held for this society, demonstrating its dynamism and members' participation in its governance.

One of the society's most significant initiatives is the biennial International and National Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ICBMB). This congress provides an unparalleled opportunity to exchange the latest scientific and research achievements in diverse fields such as clinical biochemistry, cancer biochemistry, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. In addition to the congresses, the society also organizes monthly educational and research workshops, which significantly help enhance the practical knowledge and skills of specialists and students.

These congresses and other society activities are held under the supervision and in collaboration with international bodies like the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). Furthermore, the Iranian Society of Biochemistry significantly contributes to the international dissemination and promotion of high-quality research through its scientific journal, Acta Biochimica Iranica (ABI). This English-language, open-access publication, supported by Tehran University of Medical Sciences, has become a crucial tool for knowledge dissemination in this field after its revival and acquisition of a scientific-research rating in 2024. All these activities demonstrate the Iranian Society of Biochemistry's deep commitment to elevating scientific standards and supporting researchers in the life sciences.
